Fertility Articles
Infertility is
defined as the failure of a couple to achieve pregnancy after a year of unprotected
intercourse. In men, infertility is usually associated with a decrease in the number or
quality of sperm. This can be caused by a number of factors. In women it can be caused by
sex-hormone abnormalities, low thyroid function, endometriosis which is the scarring of
the tubes connecting the ovaries with the uterus, or a host of other causes. Some of the
nutritional supplements that may be helpful for men include vitamin C, which prevents the
sperm from agglutination and reduces oxidative damage, zinc which helps maintain
testosterone levels and arginine, an amino acid needed to make sperm. In women gross
deficiencies of nutrients can affect fertility. Multivitamins and minerals, B-complex
formulas and vitamin E supplementation can help in this regard.
