Why Multivitamins? Written By - Michael Smith
What do you think is the best way to age healthfully and
live a life of prolonged health? And the survey says.....
Multivitamins.
As you know we can't stop the aging process. But, we can
age healthfully. The healthcare industry is focusing on a
discipline called anti-aging. Anti-aging is simply aging
healthfully.
Scientist have concluded that taking a multivitamin every-
day is the begining of healthful aging.
Believe it or not. Multivitamins along with a healthy diet
and exercise will give you prolonged health.
In the book, "All about vitamins", Jack Challem writes
"The prevention of disease is the key to prolonged health,
not reversing disease once it has attacked the body.
While vitamins can correct a lot of damage and reverse or
slow the course of many diseases, its far better to main-
tain a disease free body. If you are in good health now,
It may take a few years before you observe any obvious
benefits from vitamin supplementation. But you'll
probably notice that you don't get sick as often as people
who aren't taking multivitamins.
This could come as a surprise but Multivitamins also play
a critical role in pregnancy. A multivitamin containing
Folic acid could prevent a large fraction of birth defects
worldwide. Over 4000 pregnancies in the U.S are affected
by birth defects and over 300,000 annually around the globe.
Folic acid, along with vitamins b-12 and b-6 may lower
the risk of heart disease and stroke. Scientific evidence
suggests that generous intakes of three b vitamins may
reduce these two primary causes of death and disability
in the United States.
Are you beginning to wonder if multivitamins are for you?
Well a multivitamin is especially important for women who
might become pregnant, for persons who regularly consume
one or two alcoholic drinks per day, for the elderly who
tend to absorb vitamin b-12 poorly and are often deficient
in vitamin d, and for Vegans who require supplemental
vitamins b-12.
A multivitamin may also be beneficial for those who live hectic
lifestyles that keep you from eating the recommended number of
servings from the food guide pyramid. If you are on a very low
calorie weight loss diet, a multivitamin is appropriate.
If you can't drink milk or eat cheese and yogurt, take a multivitamin.
I personally take a regimen of a multivitamin and a fruits and
vegetable supplement every day to ensure my proper intake of nutrition.
Due to my hectic work schedule, I'm not always able to eat healthy. My
multivitamin supplementation does it for me. No more No less.
As you probably know there are some possible minor side effects.
Nausea, constipation, black stools, and diarrhea are among the most common.
Taking multivitamins with a meal will decrease these side effects.
Always take the recommended dosage per multivitamin bottle.
If you happen to overdose seek medical attention. Most commonly symptoms
of a multivitamin overdose include nausea and vomiting.
You may be wondering what you should avoid while taking multivitamins.
There are no restrictions on food, beverages, or activities while you
are taking multivitamin supplements. Follow any special instructions
your doctor gives you.
So Why Multivitamins? If you make it a daily habit to take a
multivitamin you'll look forward to aging healthfully and living
a life of prolonged health.
